Neither Cushing nor Lee were on hand for Hammer's third vampire opus which features the usual unwary travellers stopping off for a bite. Exciting bat ending!

-The Sloth

Couple honeymooning in Bavaria (or whatever Mittel-Europa place all these Hammer films take place in) fall into the clutches of a vampire cult. Luckily there's an alcoholic van Helsing analogue on hand to help.

Another attempt by Hammer to make a Dracula film without Cushing or Lee, this one is fairly successful, especially in its suggestion of vampirism as a disease that affects the wealthy and decadent - actually, I tend to interpret the message as' the wealthy elite are monsters that need to be scourged with fire and sword (or hordes of infernal bats)' but that's another story. WIllman is nicely supercilious, as usual, and Isobel Black makes he most of her brief screen time. On the other hand, the old trope of the village full of frightened, taciturn idiots gets a bit old, and de Souza is an even bigger impotent oaf than is normally the case for these films. The ending is similar to Hitchcock's The Birds and indeed, the US release was pushed back to help avoid comparisons.

Universal cut so much for the TV version that they had to film new scenes to fill out the time. This version, titled Kiss of Evil, involves a family that never interacts with the other cast members, and is basically pointless. Fortunately, it appears to have been forgotten.
