Whispering Smith Hits London

Whispering Smith vs. Scotland Yard

1951

Francis Searle
Director
Hammer Films
Studio

Private eye on vacation in UK gets called in on a suspicious suicide that leads to a nasty blackmailing ring.

Quite good early Hammer crime film. Carlson, a few years before becoming a sci-fi standard, is affable and has nice chemistry with Anderson. The baddies are enjoyably hissable. Nothing you've never seen before plotwise, but well-made and worthy of a DVD release, rather than last being shown on television circa 1987!
