Bond heads to Japan to investigate why American and Soviet spacecraft are disappearing from orbit, and uncovers a plot to provoke the superpowers into nuclear war.
This could have been a great movie, but is padded with far too much local color and action scenes that serve no purpose, other than to perhaps entertain autogyro and wedding enthusiasts. Plus there are scenes that are so ludicrous they cross over into self-parody, such as the idea that a burly Scotsman could look like a native Japanese merely by getting a bowl cut. It's not hard to see why the Austin Powers series took so many cues from this film. A shame, because the basic plot idea is brilliant (and much better than Fleming's rather goofy novel of the same name). Not to mention that Ken Adam's production design and John Barry's score are some of the best in the series.
