A young boy befriends a loveable alien, who gets left behind on Earth when his spaceship leaves without him.

Spielberg stated this was his favourite of all the films he made; personally I think it is one of the most over-rated movies in the history of cinema. Very lucky to receive a Universal rating by the British censors, despite its use of vulgar language and potential scary themes to younger children.
~Lord Heath

Spielberg crowd pleaser is overly manipulative but does possess genuine magic, notably the scenes with winsome moppet, Barrymore.
