UN expedition studying climate change (yes, it was a thing even forty years ago) in the Arctic location of the title has a couple members more interested in Nazi gold hidden there by a U-boat during World War II.
Big budget adaptation of popular Alistair MacLean novel was a notorious flop, and with some good reason. Actually almost good, but too long, and too many big-name actors with dubious foreign accents. Has some parallels with another big flop, Raise the Titanic, and would make a good double bill if you're into that sort of thing. Even more it bears a strong resemblance to John Carpenter's The Thing, a group of people trapped in frozen wastes, not knowing who is hiding their identity.
Note: Needless to say, in reality the only German presence on Bear Island in WWII was a weather detachment. No U-boat pens or hidden gold.
