Corrupt corporate players have plans to put robotic law enforcement on the streets of beleaguered Detroit. When a cop, Murphy, is killed in the line of duty he is resurrected as a crime fighting cyborg. Haunted by flashbacks of his past life, Murphy/RoboCop takes on crime.
Superior and very violent comic book capers without the benefit of having ever been a comic book. Verhoeven manages to pull off this quirky mix of action, comedy and satire as nobody else can (he and writer Ed Neumeier would pull off the same coup on Starship Troopers). Although a product of its day, the late 80s, the satirical barbs aimed at the corporate mentality seem dead on for today, too.
