The crew of the Enterprise saddled up once more in this first big screen offering. As Trek goes rather ponderous, as a sci-fi romance it soars. That's it, if you can forget about it being Trek, this is a magnificent film, with awesome special effects courtesy of maestro, Douglas "2001" Trumbull.
Somehwat underwhelming feature film debut for the franchise, undercut by a limp TV plot, awful costume design, and some poor acting in key roles. Fortunately, the producers got sick of Roddenberry's meddling and took control, allowing Wrath of Khan to become the best of a very long-running series.
The 2001 "Director's Cut" is not an improvement. If a director is so insecure with the final product they release that they feel the need to constantly tinker, perhaps they should let more confident hands do the work.
