Pirates, hidden treasure, mutiny what more do you want, eh? Thoroughly enjoyable version of the Stevenson classic, with Robert Newton in roistering form. Yo Ho!
Not the best adaptation of Stevenson's book (that would be the 1990 TV film with Christian Bale & Charlton Heston), but still a thoroughly enjoyable adventure film. Driscoll, like so many Disney child actors, is a bit of a liability (as is his American accent!), but the rest of the cast is excellent. Newton certainly did more in this film to create the present image of pirates than anyone except perhaps Howard Pyle. He also permanently typecast himself, unfortunately. |
