Young Frankenstein

1974

Mel Brooks
Director

Grandson of the infamous doctor is reluctantly drawn back to Transylvania to resume his grandfather's work to reanimate the dead. Hilarity ensues.

A perfect film, both because of it's perfect cast and it's love for the material it is parodying. No one seems to have noticed that besides being a great comedy, it also works pretty well as a Frankenstein movie!

The original cut ran nearly twice as long as the present film, and was extensively cut after the first screenings. many of the credited roles were cut to near cameos; for example, the gravediggers had a song and dance number, while in the final cut they are barely on screen. Lou Cutell had a sizable bit as a frightened villager which also ended up on the cutting room floor. Several other deleted scenes are present on the DVD as extras, and the book on the making of the film has a casting sheet with many other names.
