An animal control officer (Carrey) finds that his wife has bought him an old second-hand red book for his birthday; but it's no ordinary book. Strangely, the pages within seem to detail an almost identical story of his own life and it isn't before long he starts to become obsessed with it, as it consumes his life and leads him into acting out the horrible story contained within the pages.
Clever, extremely well thought out dark thriller which has its moments of intrigue and boredom. It certainly has one of the most 'must-watch' opening title sequences I have seen in a long time. Carrey gives a solid performance as well as the usual expected touches of humour from time to time. The film will have all of you calculating at least something important in your lives before you have even reached the end, I guarantee you. Mine would be my birthday 9/14 = 23... what's yours? |
