Cliff Richard stars as Bongo Herbert, yes, Bongo Herbert. Good record of the life and times at a milestone in cultural history, as a film, mostly harmless. Directed by unsung Brit genius Val Guest.
Hard to belive this is only a few years before the Beatles changed everything. I'd take the twangy guitar sounds The Shadows are putting out here over the 'Fab Four' any day.
The West End musical this film is based on is a sharp satire of the music industry; the movie has completely different music and instead becomes a valentine to the same industry. It's also not a very good movie - I guess it's easier to make a mediocre film than to make a good satire.
Note: Thanks to Philly for sharing his spotting notes; without his eyes, this entry would be half the length!
