American Army colonel McCrea accidentally shotos and kills a poacher while out hunting. He hides the body, but did he actually kill him, and was the man actually a poacher? The colonel is soon drawn into cloak & dagger doings involving mysterious activities in the local farmland.
Excellent little Cold War adventure, well adopted from the Geoffrey Household novel of the same name. Fine performances and an understated sense of humor make the film, along with a neat finale in Madame Tussaud's. Culver stands out as the droll little bureaucrat from MI-5, sort of the prototypical Harry Palmer. Highly recommended.
